A Journey · First Maldives
Planning a first trip to the Maldives — which atoll, which transfer, beach villa or overwater, and how long to stay. A short, honest guide, and houses chosen to make the first time the easy one.
How we hold it
For a first trip we lean toward North and South Malé houses — a short speedboat rather than a seaplane day — so the island is yours by lunch.
Most first-timers split the stay: a few nights on the sand to settle, a few over the water for the view everyone comes for. We hold both.
Meal plan, transfers, the snorkel reef, the one dinner worth booking ahead — set before you fly, so the first time has no homework.
The Retreats
The first international luxury house in the country — the garden island of the Four Seasons pair.
Fari Islands · North Malé AtollA modern island, drawn in clean line and quiet colour.
North Malé AtollThe country's second resort, opened December 1972 — origin-story Maldives.
North Malé AtollThe eco-led Kaimoo house — coral propagation, glass-bottled water, a barefoot register.
The Season
A first trip is easiest in the dry season (December–April): flat lagoons, reliable sun, the best snorkelling. The shoulder months trade a little weather for far fewer guests and gentler rates.
Correspondence
Five to seven is the sweet spot — long enough to slow right down, short enough to keep one island feeling special. We’ll suggest a beach-then-water split if you want both.
For a first stay we often choose a close house with a short speedboat transfer — a simpler arrival, no seaplane weight limits or daylight waits. The seaplane is a beautiful thing to save for the second trip.
