One Bedroom Water Reserve with Slide
One bedroom · 555 m² · 20 villasA water villa with a slide from the upper deck and a retractable roof above the bed.
The Retreat
Soneva Jani sits inside the Medhufaru lagoon in the Noonu Atoll — five islands ringed by 5.6 kilometres of clear water. The largest, Medhufaru, runs to 150 acres. The house was built to feel like a castaway camp drawn at a higher resolution — villas in sustainable timber, decks open to the lagoon, a Barefoot Guardian to handle the rest. Most water villas open directly onto the lagoon with a private pool, a retractable roof above the bed, and a slide from the upper floor into the sea. Island villas tuck into the greenery — pool, white sand, and a few paces to the shore. Sixty-one villas across the property, ranging from one to five bedrooms — every one with bicycles, a walk-in minibar, and three places to sit down for dinner. The programming runs wide. A 16-inch Meade telescope rises through the floor of the observatory. A weekly barefoot dinner on North Beach. A Marine Biology Centre, a turtle rehabilitation centre run with the Olive Ridley Project, an organic garden that feeds most kitchens — and a cinema set on stilts over the water.
A barefoot castaway house — built for slow days on the water and long looks at the night sky.

Dining Experiences
From the signature room held by a single chef to the long-lunch beach kitchen — the dining experiences at Soneva Jani are drawn for the hour of the day, not the page of the menu.
A barefoot beach shack for crab in many languages, with the upstairs bar for sunset.
One fire pit, many techniques — roasting, salt-crusts, kettles, coals.
Sashimi and black cod served alongside a film at the overwater silent theatre.

Wellbeing
Split between the overwater spa at The Gathering and the island spa in the green — the wellness register runs from proper therapies to the simple medicine of a slide into your own lagoon.
Experiences
What the retreat actually does well beyond the villa line — with its own schedules and price lists where it publishes them. Every experience is arranged through your correspondent.
A 16-inch telescope rises through the floor, with a resident astronomer for stargazing dinners, picnics and cruises. The Noonu sky is the darkest most guests have seen.
The Noonu Atoll Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre runs on-site with the Olive Ridley Project — injured turtles rehabilitated in view, released when ready.
Mushroom Hut, Chicken Coop, Vegetable Garden, Vetiver Ponds, Waste-to-Wealth — the island's working infrastructure, walked like a register.
On most villas, straight from the deck into the lagoon — the house's signature, and nobody outgrows it.
The Shape of a Day
A sketched register of one day at Soneva Jani — the hours we tend to compose around. Yours will be drawn for the company you keep.
The slide before breakfast is a tradition by the second morning.
Three storeys over water — the library, the wine cellar, Soneva Soul, and most of the kitchens under one roof.
Walk the working island — vegetable garden to vetiver ponds — and look in on the rehabilitation pools.
The telescope rises through the floor; the astronomer does the rest. Dinner waits below.
Occasions
A castaway occasion — vows on a sandbank, dinner under the observatory's open sky, the children sliding into the lagoon while the grown-ups hold the long table. The house composes occasions barefoot, and better for it.
Bespoke Insights
The particulars a brochure would miss — the small notes we keep on this retreat, drawn from the journeys we have composed here.
The Gathering is a three-storey overwater tower holding the dining outlets, the wine cellar, the spa, the library, and the boutique — most of the house's social life sits inside one wooden structure.
The observatory uses a 16-inch Meade telescope that rises through the floor — backed by a resident astronomer for stargazing dinners, picnics, and cruises.
A Noonu Atoll Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre runs in partnership with the Olive Ridley Project — injured turtles are rehabilitated on-site, with expert-led tours.
A walking list of garden infrastructure — Mushroom Hut, Chicken Coop, Vegetable Garden, Vetiver Ponds, Waste-to-Wealth — feeds the kitchens and quietly handles the back-of-house.
Every villa includes a children's sleeping area off the master, plus The Den kids' club — the house is built for families without flagging it loudly.
